Tuesday, 11 February, 2014

Within the frameworks of the International Month of Francophonie, a full day conference on the "Lessons of the Dreyfus Affair for the Future" is to be held on next Tuesday 11 March 2014, at the campus of the Tel Aviv University.

The event is co-sponsored by the Tel Aviv University and by the Sorbonne Paris IV University. On behalf of the Tel Aviv University, the event will be chaired by the Department of French Studies and by the Kantor Center for the Study of Contemporary European Jewry.

Before the sessions begin, the Ambassador of the French Republic to Israel, His Excellency Mr. Patrick Maisonnave and the former Rector of the TAU, Prof. Sh. Yankelewicz, will present their greetings. Then we will have the exceptional opportunity to hear the impressions of the great-granchildren of Capt. Alfred Dreyfus, and of the great-grandchildren of Mr. Emile Zola.

Prof. Dina Porat, Head of our Center, will read the first lecture of the opening session, at 9:45 in the morning.

The event will take place at the Berger Hall (223) in the Gilman Building of the Tel Aviv campus. Lectures will be simultaneously translated into and from French and Hebrew. The public is cordially invited to assist. Full details can be read in this enclosed bi-lingual invitation.

On the same subject, our center is also inviting the public to participate to opening of a new exhibition called "Dreyfus: The history of a Jewish French Family", that will take place in Beit Hatfutsot, the Museum of the Jewish People, on Monday 10 March 2014 at 18:45. Among others, we will hear the greetings of His Excellency the Ambassador of France in Israel, Mr. Patrick Maisonnave and of Mrs. Tzipi Livni, the Israeli Minister of Justice.
