International conference on "Autonomous Histories and Studies of the Holocaust"

Date:
Monday, 14 October, 2013

An international conference on the subject of "Autonomous Histories and studies of the Holocaust" will be held on 3-5 November at the Wiener Library – The Study of the Nazi Era and the Holocaust at Tel Aviv University and at Bar Ilan University.

It is organized by the Wiener Library - The Study of the Nazi Era and the Holocaust, in cooperation with the Kantor Center for the Study of Contemporary European Jewry, The Minerva Center for German History and The Abe and Edita Spigel Family Chair for Holocaust Research. The latter belongs to the Bar Ilan University while the tree former are part of the Tel Aviv University.

The Conference will examine the two distinct directions in which studies of the Holocaust have developed – studies on the perpetrators on the one hand, and studies on the victims' experiences and responses on the other. The lectures will seek to illuminate fundamental questions regarding the conflict as well as the interplay and meeting points between these two trends. It will focus on the conceptual and methodological aspects involved in this long lasting disintegration and regard the possibility of integrative studies and narratives. The Conference will include lectures of different disciplines and research areas of Holocaust studies, such as history, art, literature and jurisprudence and will be conducted in English.
