Monday, 20 March, 2017
We are pleased to announce the publication of the March 2017 Kantor Center Position Paper, "Between the Far Right and the Far Left: Current Issues of Racism and Nationalism in Greece", written by Michal Navoth.
Navoth examines three political parties represented in the Greek parliament: Golden Dawn, Independent Greeks and Syriza. Golden Dawn is one of the most extreme right-wing parties in Europe, and all of its MPs have been charged with belonging to a criminal organization. Syriza is a left-wing party whose leader, Alexis Tsipras, is the Prime Minister of Greece since 2015. Syriza’s junior coalition partner is the right-wing party Independent Greeks. Navoth places the three parties and their divergent worldviews in the proper political context in light of the recent dramatic developments, in Greece, including the financial breakdown and the refugee crisis.
Navoth's paper is dedicated to the memory of her father, Pessach Navoth (1926—2017).
