Kantor Center News and Events

  • On December  6, Prof. Dina Porat, head of the Center, was awarded the Wallenberg Medal.
  • On December 19, as part of the Wiener Lecture Series for the 2012-13 academic year Prof. Jürgen Matthäus lectured on "The Racist Policy of the Nazi Regime in Its First Years." On January 16, Prof. Dan Michman spoke on "The Ghettos in the Holocaust – Why Were They Really Established?" The full program for the series, coordinated by Dr. Roni Stauber, can be uploaded here. Unless other specified, the lectures are in Hebrew. 
  • On December 27, as part of the annual interdisciplinary seminar series on "Dilemmas of Identity: European Jews in the 21st Century - Extinct Identities, Formative Identities," Prof. Mordechai Altshuler lectured on "The Synagogue and the Existence of Jewish Life in the Soviet Union." On January 24, Dr. Zeev Hanin spoke on the topic "From the Caucasus to the Waltz – the Establishment of a New Jewish Diaspora in Vienna."   • On January 17, Kantor Center Fellow Gunther Jikeli received the Raul Wallenberg scholarship.
  • On January 22-23, Prof Dina Porat, head of the Center, took part in the International Holocaust Remembrancel Day events organized by the European Parliament in Brussels. 
  • On January 27, an interim report about antisemitic trends was prepared by the staff of the Kantor Database for the Study of Contemporary Antisemitism and Racism and presented at a special session of the Israeli government.
  • On January 28, the Center's staff, volunteers and fellows visited Yad Vashem.
  • On January 29, the Zeev Vered Desk for the Study of Tolerance and Intolerance in the Middle East, headed by Dr. Esther Webman, together with the Center and the Stephen Roth Institute, held the Zeev Vered third annual symposium on Holocaust Education among Arabs and Muslims – Challenges and Hopes.
  • The Kantor Center held an international conference, entitled "From Rejection to Acceptance - to Be Jewish in 21st Century Germany," on February 10-12, 2013 at Tel Aviv University. Upload the program here.
